The Hulk Animated Series
Is there a lack of action cartoons for adults/ teens in the English-speaking world?
At first you might think I’m mad – but if you examine the material out there, you’ll figure out what I’m talking about.
Teen and adult-themed animation – is a speciality – chiefly in Japan!
What about the English speaking world (Hollywood etc.)?
We have animated comedy (need I mention the Simpsons?).
What about Shrek? Comedy.
And what about Prince of Egypt? For the Sunday School children.
Final Fantasy? Japanese.
Hulk, the movie? Close, but not a fully animated movie.
The Bat Man; Justice League TV series? Very, very nice American cartoons! It’s sad, however that they get aimed at only the children’s market and are considered ‘kiddy’.
Titan A.E.? Now, that’s the only one I can think of!
So, can anybody help me figure out if there really is a lack of interest in (English-language) action animation? Thanks.
The problem is that as with all things Japanese they flood the market and have the workforce to mass produce.
For the minority of us we want something more intellectual and thought provoking and these take time. You only have to go into a comic shop and sift through the myriad of magazines on offer especially some of the more “vintage” books and comics. However, in a fast paced throwaway world, the masses want easy to understand junk culture equivalents to fast food.
You have obviously highlighted a niche in the market, but quite a specialist niche.
I asked a question regarding one of Britains
comic and story creators, and no one had heard of the comics!
