DC Universe Online is one of the biggest surprises we have received the kind of massive online in a long time. During these past two weeks after the official launch, we have been able to travel to complete the 30 levels of content featuring the latest creation of SOE, and I can anticipate that those mechanical aroused much interest in our first contact with the betaHave been confirmed as a perfectly good finish to give life to a very original and innovative MMORPG. After the success of the series City of Heroes / Villains and low acceptance of Champions Online, SOE intends to break into the market with the ultimate superhero MMO. Have I succeeded?
Let’s get to the point: DC Universe Online surprising and stands out from its competitors by the sleek and innovative (in the genre of MMORPG) combat system, a fundamental pillar in virtually all facets of the game. No, DC Universe Online is an MMORPG to use, not intended to be: there are no ‘crafting’, or ‘housing’, not a deep economic system, or any of these extra non-combat typically attempt to expand the possibilities to occupy themselves in massive online worlds. DC Universe Online is a veritable torrent of action without pause or respite, and whatever the reasons or goals that we intend, in the end we always end up plating situations that maximize their new combat system. And done well, because that way not only does not fool anyone, but thanks to these mechanical as well implemented, makes every battle a real joy.
DC Universe Online has a combat system based on the use of combos, in the style of God of War or Devil May Cry. No, this is not another attempt to convey the idea of combo to the MMORPG genre as they tried in their day Age of Conan and Champions Online: Response to the controls and our actions in DC Universe is so intuitive, fast and immediate As in any game action in the third person offline that you can imagine. Thus, DC Universe Online, what counts is our ability to pad: the control of our character and mastery of his combos and his powers.
Each character is defined, in addition to his faction (hero or villain) for a primary weapon, by which it will unlock new combos whose execution is resolved with the buttons associated with primary and secondary attack by a power that gives us a wide range of executive skills through a combination of the triggers of the pad with the other buttons and two different roles (such as tank, controller, or healer, always complementary to that of ‘DPS’.) However, in a similar way as it did in its day Guild Wars, we are only allowed to have six skills “mapped” on your keyboard or mouse for each role, so it is important to configure your character not only in the field of computer and statistics, but also in their skills available for combat. Although it may sound confusing at first, practice will take us no more than ten minutes playing DC Universe Online for us to come to mind a question: Are we really playing an MMORPG, or a multiplayer action game?
